Hoarding Cleanup Singapore — Compassionate Home Restoration

October 12, 2026 3 min read yzsoh@doctorclean.com.sg

Hoarding cleanup in Singapore is sensitive work. The person who lives in a hoarded home didn’t choose that state — hoarding disorder is a mental health condition recognised by the Singapore Association for Mental Health. Our job isn’t to judge, discard, or lecture. It’s to restore the home while respecting the person. This guide covers what Doctor Clean does, how we do it, and what families should expect.

Our approach — the 5 principles

  1. No judgement. Crew is trained to not comment, not photograph (except for insurance/documentation purposes with consent), not share with other clients.
  2. Consent at every stage. The homeowner (or legal representative) decides what stays, what goes, what gets donated.
  3. Discretion. Unmarked vehicles if requested. Crew wears generic black uniforms (not branded) if asked.
  4. Collaborative with mental health professionals. If a social worker, counsellor, or family mental health professional is involved, we coordinate scheduling + scope with them.
  5. Pace controlled by the homeowner. Not every job is “clear the whole house in a day.” Some are over 2-4 weeks, in half-day sessions.

What hoarding cleanup covers

  • Sorting support — crew helps categorise items into Keep / Donate / Discard. Homeowner makes final decisions.
  • Clinical waste disposal — expired medicine, used sharps, biohazardous waste (handled per NEA/MOH guidelines).
  • Pest treatment — cockroaches, bed bugs, rats commonly accompany long-term hoarding. Coordinated with licensed pest control.
  • Deep cleaning — floors, walls, bathrooms, kitchen (often decades of grime).
  • Disinfection — hospital-grade sanitisation after clearance.
  • Mould remediation — common in hoarded homes due to blocked ventilation.
  • Repair referrals — we identify but don’t do: electrical rewiring, plumbing, structural repairs.
  • Donations coordination — we can arrange pickup by SATA, Salvation Army, or specific charities.

Hoarding cleanup cost Singapore

Pricing is scoped — depends on severity, home size, and whether specialist waste disposal is needed. Typical ranges:

Severity HDB 3-4 Room HDB 5-Room / Condo
Light (clutter + deep clean) S$600 – S$1,200 S$900 – S$1,800
Moderate (multi-room clearance + pest treatment) S$1,500 – S$3,500 S$2,500 – S$5,500
Severe (biohazard, multi-day, specialist disposal) S$3,500 – S$7,500+ S$5,000 – S$12,000+

Payment can be split across sessions. Insurance claims (if applicable) are coordinated with the homeowner.

Signs it’s time for professional hoarding cleanup

  • Pathways through rooms narrowed to shoulder-width or less.
  • Rooms unusable (can’t sleep in bedroom, can’t cook in kitchen, can’t sit in living room).
  • Pest infestation (cockroaches, bed bugs, rats).
  • Smell (urine, mould, rotting food).
  • Fire hazard (blocked exits, piles near heat sources).
  • Falls / injuries from navigating the home.
  • Family or neighbour complaints.
  • Mental distress from the clutter.

What families should expect

  1. Day 1: Consultation. We visit, assess, scope. No cleaning yet. Homeowner (or legal rep) walks us through priorities.
  2. Day 2+: Clearance (phased). Crew sorts with homeowner. Items get bagged, labeled, categorised.
  3. Day N: Pest treatment + disposal. Specialist contractors handle bulky items, biohazards, pest control.
  4. Day N+1: Deep cleaning + disinfection. Full home scrub.
  5. Follow-up (optional). Monthly maintenance housekeeping to help the home stay restored.
